Giving so much thanks for this key information that supports all women to reconnect with their inner nature and cycles. Here, Hwaneetah gives us great advice to take some time during our menstruation to recapitulate everything that we did during the last month. We can ask ourselves and meditate on or journal about:

Where did we go?
Who did we see?
What did we accomplish?
What happened?
What was challenging?
What can we celebrate?

This process of recapitulation allows us to understand how much we truly deserve this time of rest during our menstruation. As Hwaneetah says, we do this so we can get off the carousel of life, take a breather to recenter ourselves, and then be ready to get back on with life, with more energy!

After the all night San Pedro ceremony which is at the end of the week, we spend the day celebrating all the energy and love put into each process of transformation. Plant Medicine AND Yoga

All of our retreats include daily yoga, breathwork, and meditation as we truly believe that integrating the purification and lessons during the week in the body and mind is crucial. We are so grateful to be working with Vanessa from @otra_ola yoga studio in #Ayampe . She has been guiding the yoga practice at our last several retreats and will be leading them as well during the upcoming Women's Retreat in April.

Vanessa has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and teaching since 2008. She has been studying under the guidance of Yogi Vishvketu in the lineage of Adhi Nath Shiva. She is originally from Canada and moved here in 2008 with her husband. They have two beautiful children together and have successfully run Otra Ola since 2010, a #Surf, #Spanish, and Yoga School and Organic Cafe in the neighboring town of Ayampe.

Since 2012, Vanessa has been guiding YTT 200 hrs in a range of styles, from Vinyasa Ashtanga Flow to Hatha trainings. She loves to provide access to students to dive deeper into their practices.

Vanessa’s practice is not only about preparing the physical body for the ceremony but also the nervous system and all the automatic systems of the body. The day of ceremony practices are meant to reduce stress and anxiety and provide a deeper connection to the breath. The following day is all about integration, and depending on what medicine is used and what the participants need, she will build a practice to support.

Vanessa has over 1500 hours of study ranging from 200 YTTs to Pranayama Master Program, Yoga Nidra and Meditation Facilitator, Wisdom Years Yoga (50 and over), Reiki Level 1 and 2, Thai Massage as well as many courses in Holistic Education.

Vanessa is so excited to be a part of Ayllu Medicina and the amazing healing space they have created.

Did you know that our menstrual cycle mimics the cycles of Mother Earth? When we are menstruating, this is our inner Winter, and we are at 20% of our total energy. That means anything we try to do will take more effort, and only go so far. Our moon time is a time to rest, pause, and at least go slower in all that we do so our energy can renew properly. Just like the Earth, this is productive because we are preparing for our energy to rise in Spring. We use this tradition of offering to say Thank you Mother Earth for your wisdom, patience, and love. You can make an offering of grains, fruits, tobacco, water, seeds, stones, and other items that are meaningful to you, which you can return to Mother Earth in gratitude. This is a great way to close cycles, especially on New Moon and other significant dates like the end of the calendar year.

We will end this year with a Temazcal and offering of thanks to the Earth, join us on Dec. 30th at 4pm!

Practicing and singing with the ocean is such a beautiful way to spend an afternoon. When we say music is medicine, we mean that it can be a vehicle to calm our minds, bring us to presence, and to call in anything we may be needing.

For example, If you're lonely and needing more love, sing a song of gratitude to the water - the oceans, rivers, lakes, and all the water inside of you that comes from your ancestors and the Earth. Focusing on this song can bring you to the present moment, out of your mind and in gratitude for what is.
